This award recognizes those students who, over the years, have completed solutions to challenges in each of the 6 competitive categories. Named after Ferdinand Magellan, who is famous for circumnavigating the globe, it reflects an individual student’s efforts to travel to all of the Destinations in DI.
This is an individual award, not a team award. Team members may qualify by competing on multiple teams over the years.
The different types of challenges are:
Challenge A - Technical (Ex: Breaking Point, In the Zone, )
Challenge B - Science (Ex: Worlds Beyond, Wind Visible)
Challenge C - Fine Arts (Ex: Less is More, Feary Tales, Laugh Art Loud, In Disguise)
Challenge D - Improv (Ex: Are We There Yet?, Treasure!, Improv Games)
Challenge E - Engineering/Structure (Ex: High-Wire Act, The Tension Builds, Twist-O-Rama)
Challenge PO - Service Learning (Ex: This or That)

The following are the rules for qualifying for the Magellan Award:
The student must have competed at a regional tournament in a challenges in each of the 6 competitive categories (technical, scientific, fine arts, improv, engineering, and service learning).
The current year’s Challenges may be included as qualifying Challenges, but the team member’s team must participate at this year’s regional tournament to receive the award.
The application must be received by January 31, 2025.
